Photography has taken me from the streets, rivers, and trails of D.C. and the mid-Atlantic, to the hot Utah desert and rocky mountains of Montana, and the distant peaks of Patagonia. I love the unique challenge that each race provides. I’ve photographed events while halfway submerged in a lake and from rooftops, scissors lifts, bikes, cars, trucks, motorcycles, jet skis, boats, helicopters, and airplanes. Even photographing the same races at the same parks year after year is actually different thanks to ever-changing weather conditions. Feedback from racers has led me to expand into individual athlete-centered photography. I find it awesome being able to spend more time with people beyond the few seconds during a race when they run past me.
My photos have been published in The Washington Post, Shape magazine, Yahoo! News, Backpacker, Competitor, Run Washington, Blue Ridge Outdoors, Metro Sports DC, and DCist.com and I’ve written articles for Trail Runner Magazine and Tri DC.
I created Swim Bike Run Photo in 2007 after first learning the ins and outs of event production at EX2 and after a two year apprenticeship with amazing adventure sport photographer Will Ramos. In 2009, the international photography competition, Fotoweek DC, awarded me first prize for Sports Photography.
